WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

  • Writing my life stories has been transformative in so many positive ways...

Being guided by Sarah to write my life stories has been transformative in so many positive ways! Every writing prompt enables me to record amusing, unchartered or important details about my life that I want to share with my daughter someday. Sharing these memoirs with an incredible group of women opens my mind to fresh and new perspectives. After every short meeting, I am always thrilled to have made time for such a life affirming and beautiful experience.  I am forever grateful to Sarah.

  • Writing was never my forte...

Writing was never my forte. I am a visual artist and the paintbrush has always been my pen. However, joining this powerful group of writers, led and orchestrated by Sarah, has helped me grow and express myself in ways I would have never been able to share. The impact of writing personal essays has been a therapeutic and fulfilling experience. I especially appreciate the bond it has created within my group. It’s a trusted and safe space that is very sacred to all of us. My confidence and ability to now express myself on paper is not only a gift to me, but a keepsake for my children for years to come.

  • I wanted to illustrate for my children, who I am outside of being a mom...

I initially joined Sarah’s memoir group because I wanted to write down the many life stories I love to tell. I also wanted to illustrate for my children, in my own words, who I am outside of being a busy mom managing work deadlines and family schedules. It has been an incredibly fulfilling personal journey to revisit the people, places, sights, sounds and sensations of the many stages of my life. The practice of reflecting and writing in a group of peers has helped me through mid-life transitions and helped me forge an intentional path to the next phases of my life. As we witness each others stories, we have gone from a group of individuals to a bonded group of friends. I never expected to find such intimate, meaningful relationships as an adult over 50 and am so glad I joined Sarah’s group.

  • Writing has challenged me to consider new insightful perspectives...

I participate in one of Sarah’s memoir writing groups. Writing in this format is new to me. Through my participation, I have been challenged to consider new pathways of thinking and many new insightful perspectives. I have never kept a journal, but now I am grateful to have written about times in my life that are important to me.

  • Writing my stories helped me better understand my past and present self...

I started writing memoirs under Sarah’s insightful and loving guidance some five years ago. I wanted to write stories for my son – it helps tremendously with the desperate lack of storytelling between generations, particularly in more insular families. Soon I found it did much more than that. It helped me reflect on my stories and understand better their meaning in both my past and present self. By imagining an audience, and by reading it to trusted peers, I placed the stories into context, tapping into forgotten emotions while giving me tools to understand them better.

Sarah is a natural catalyst for self-exploration and although she has great professional expertise, her manner and approachability creates a safe and creative space we only experience with good friends. I highly recommend memoir writing in this context, truly, even a few sentences can shine a bright light in parts of our hearts that most need it.
